This will require professional development during the summer and throughout the year. Additional professional development is required to maintain Reading Recovery status. Current Reading Recovery status is required to retain employment. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. NYSED Certification in Reading K-12. 2. Evidence of successful teaching of reading. 3. Evidence of good interpersonal skills with students. 4. Ability to motivate and engage students in reading activities. 5. Understanding of the New York State ELA standards and the Early Literacy Initiative. 6. Belief that all students’ learning can be accelerated. 7. Reading Recovery trained or formal agreement to be trained in 2005-06. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Reading Recovery responsibilities: 1. Teach at least four first-grade children per day for 30-minute daily session in a school setting throughout the school year. 2. Keep complete records on each child as a basis for instruction (observation survey and summary, predictions of progress, lesson records, running records, record of writing vocabulary, record of book level). 3. Demonstrate effective teaching of Reading Recovery children. 4. Serve a minimum of eight children per year. 5. Communicate with parents, first-grade teachers, and other appropriate school personnel throughout the year. 6. Submit data to the teacher leader as required. 7. Attend a minimum of six continuing contact sessions each year, including a minimum of four behind-the-glass with two lessons each session. 8. Consult with teacher leader about children not making satisfactory progress and other program issues. 9. Attend an approved Reading Recovery conference each year. 10.
