procedure

This game has many rules so the first time can be difficult because you have to explain "How to Play".

How to Play:
1. Divide class into two teams mixing boys and girls.
2. The teacher is the pitcher.
3. Each batter gets two pitches
4. Everything is in play or fair.
5. The batting team must be sitting down.
6. The fielding team may not pass the pitcher until the ball is pitched.
7. The playing area 7a. Big Base (one wall), MAT (in corner opposite big base) gym used longwise. Batting team seated to the side opposite MAT.
8. The one side of the gym is the "Big Base" and the Mat is the "Small Base". batters may go to either base and stay as long as they want.
9. The batter/runner is hit by any ball they are out.
10. The fielder may get the batter/runner out by catching a fly ball, hitting a runner below the neck, or passing the ball to a teammate and they tagging them.
11. The fielders may only take one step to throw or pass the ball. If more the runner is automatically safe. If a runner is hit above the neck they are safe.
12. Each base may hold as many runners as there are batters, and any runner may go on any hit ball or kicked ball. Runners are given free backs if the ball is caught in the air. NO STEALING OR LEAD OFFS.
13. If the batter throws the bat they are out, and all runners go free back.
14. If a runner is over half way and the Pitcher (teacher) has the ball they get the base they are going to. All play stops when the pitcher has the ball.
15. The batting order is the same unless batter is on base.
16. Points are scored if the runner can go from the big base to the opposite wall, or mat to the big base to opposite wall.
17. Three outs and change or five runs, depends on flow of game and level of class.

closure

1. Works best if boy girl batting order.
2. Try different types of balls (ie, beachballs, varied size whiffles, boingoballs)
3. Make an area above the big base the home run area.
4. Teacher pitches to control game and umpire.
5. Have teams support each other and cheer to encourage sportsmanship.
