Grade Level: Grades 1-3
Description: This lesson plan allows students to become familar with fairy tale
genre through personal writing practices and computer software programs.
Goal: Students will demonstrate the elements of fairy tale genre.
Concepts: Students will be able to:
- Write an ending for the 3 Little Pigs.
- Identify the elements of a fairy tale genre.
Materials:
Blackboard, pencil, paper, Kids Pictures software, and a word processor.
Background Information: You may use other software tools for this lesson. Any
version of the 3 little pigs is useable.
Procedures:
- Discuss with the class about what would they do if they were scared. Elicite 5-6
different responses.
- Use a super word web with the 3 vocabularly words: Scared, Blow, and hide.
- Have the studens partner up with another student and read the book The 3 Little Pigs
only until the scence where the three pigs come together.
- Ask the students to predict an ending to the story. Let them brainstorm thier ideas for
10-12 min. and write them down.
- Tell students the elements of fairy-tale genre: magic, evil, good, moral.
- Have the students write out their story endings. Those that finish their task, let them
begin to use the word processor to type in their stories.
- After the students have typed in their stories, they will use the Kids Picture software
to draw an illustration with their paper.
Assesment:
- Assignments should contain elements of a fariy tale genre. (i.e. magic)
- Students should be able to orally presented fairy tale genres located in thier stories.
