Description:

Students will learn and understand different customs, people, regions and costumes of Mexico. They will understand that even though it is one country their customs vary from state to state.

Goals:

Students will learn the difference between Southern, Central and Northern States.

Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to tell the difference between 4-6 traditional costume from 4-6 selected states.
  2. Students will list 2-3 different state from each of the 3 regions of Mexico (North, South,Central).

Background information:

The activity teaches specific region learned through pictures and maps. This activity can be taught to children that have never learned anything about that country.

Concepts:

Students will be able to relate and distinguish customs, people, and tradition from a particular region.

Materials:

Different maps 3-4

  • State and capitols
  • Different places where city and indigenous people live.

Pictures

  • cities
  • people
  • costumes
  • colors

Procedure:

Students identify each region of the country in terms of its different costumes, different people, states and the cities.

Students will color that region on the map.

Assessment:

  1. Ask students if they got what they wanted out of the activity.
  2. Ask them if they had a hard time with anything in the activity.
  3. Ask them to evaluate the lesson.
    • How it could be better?
    • What they didn't like?
