Dear Ann Flanders, Four years ago I met the woman of my dreams. She was tall, and had long, slender, sexy legs. She had long straight brown hair and a smile that made my heart sing. We met in math class during college. We got married after we graduated three years ago. I thought I was the luckiest guy in the world. Now I don't think so. You see my wife is no longer the woman I married. Six months after we got married, she cut her beautiful long hair and got a short, ugly permanent. Likewise, she no longer has her slender figure. She stopped exercising and began eating so much junk food that she gained 100lbs (about 50 kgs). Worse still, she no longer has that smile that made my heart sing. Now she has a permanent scowl on her face. She loves to bark out orders from her sofa in front of the TV. Now I wonder if before she just made herself beautiful so that she could get a ring. I, on the other hand, have kept my athletic figure. I still swim everyday and watch what I eat. I feel it is important to look good not only for myself, but also for my wife. Certainly it was her beauty that attracted me, but now it is her ugliness that makes me sick. Please help. What can I do? Sincerely, Horrified. Comprehension: 1. What's the guy's problem? 2. What did the guy get married? 3. What are some ways his wife has changed? 4. What did he expect from his wife when they got married? Did his wife meet those expectations? Discussion: 1. What is your opinion of the man? 2. What is your opinion of the woman? 3. What are some things the woman can do to make herself beautiful again? 4. What advice would you give to the man? 5. What do you find attractive in the opposite sex? What kinds of outward do you want in a spouse? 6. What will you do if your spouse becomes ugly? 7. What responsibilities do couples have to each other after they get married? 8. If this guy chose to get divorced, would he be justified? Individually, write a letter to this gentleman.
